In our last article, as we were seeing out 2022, we spoke about some exciting paint colour trends that will be happening this year. Now that we are standing on the threshold of 2023, as promised we will look at some more, not just painting trends, but wall decorating trends too.
There are certain things that the times we are living in dictate and are reflected in our moods and consequently our choice of designs and colours. In the last article (you can get it here if you missed it) – https://swirlpainting.co.za/2022/11/21/exciting-paint-colour-trends-for-2023/ – we mentioned trends like ‘inviting the outdoors in,’ a need for a calmer environment’ etc. which were reflected in the colours we will choose in 2023.
This article looks at more of what will be happening in our world this year and how it will influence our design and wall decorating choices. So here are some more great wall decorating trends for 2023!
Sustainability will play a huge role
Designers from all over the world have differing opinions on trends but one thing that will be a constant globally is the emphasis that will be placed on sustainability. This will greatly affect the painting and wall decorating materials we use of course, but the look and feel of things will also be aligned with a great desire for people to re-connect with nature.
As one world-renowned Designer Tash Bradley, Lick’s Director of Interior Design says, “You’ll notice that the colour palette found in sustainable materials is very grounding – typically earthy neutrals. These colours have the ability to physically ground you and give you the stability we are all going to be craving in 2023.”
Wallpaper Borders
The same Designer believes that there will be a big trend in the use of Wallpaper borders, traditionally used as a way of hiding imperfections on walls, but which will now be used to add colour, patterns and character in a home, something many will be aiming for in 2023.
‘Wavy stripes’ in paint techniques and on wallpapers will be a way to elevate mood!
Let’s face it, with wars, an energy crisis and generally tough economic times 2022 wasn’t smooth sailing for many of us, so there will be a huge trend to elevate our moods this year. This can be created in the way we decorate and so many Designers are saying that wavy stripes in paint techniques and on wallpapers will be a great way to elevate moods and relax us. As one observer put it ‘’On the walls, wavy striped wallpapers can bring height, softness and fluidity to a space, while offering a contemporary take on the traditional stripe.’’
